It’s summer. You’re feeling a little more alive {let’s face it, driving with the windows down and the music up does that} and want to have some fun. So I have a challenge for you. Get colorful!
As cliche as it sounds, it is summer, and you should live it up a little. I recently re-discovered the quote:
I just LOVE this. Instead of partaking in {what seems like} the monotony of every day work, eat, sleep, {and maaaybe workout}, change it up a little.
A few ways to get colorful:
1. Get Out of Your Comfort Zone.
- Head to a bar or restaurant you never thought you would go to.
- Take the long route home from work {if walking} and notice the differences in the block/neighborhood. And, look up. {after reading this, of course}.
- Try Fitness in the Park {or just a new workout}.
2. Learn Something New.
– Take a painting class. Maybe with wine?
- Take a photography class.
- Go to the Hoboken Historical Museum.
- Go to the Hoboken public library and sit in on a seminar.
3. Treat yo’self.
Really, though.
- Get a massage or a facial, or something you’ve never done before.
- Take a late night walk to get some fro yo on the water at 16 Handles, or maybe some vegan fro yo at Love & Yogurt!
- Close down your phone, turn off the TV, and just take a bubble bath with some essential oils, it does wonders. Promise!
4. Go on an adventure.
Doesn’t have to be too far or expensive — just far enough that you get a little taste of something new. Sometimes we live in a bubble and forget to pop it every once in a while and get out of our comfort zone. A few of my favorites:
- Long Island Wine Country is a great place to start.
- Rustic hike + farm country weekend getaway in NW NJ.
- Brooklyn adventure…or heck, even Manhattan off-the-beaten-path!
…just a few to get you started! PS: Check out my friend Amanda’s page, Don’t Sit Home for AMAZING tips on the scoop for NJ/NYC adventures!
5. Literally, Get Colorful.

Ombres don’t always have to be blonde! Thanks to Ashley of Rebellations, I’ve got a new ‘do for a few weeks. The purple will def wash out, but I’m loving a little summer change!
– Or, add some jewelry to the mix. Found these beautiful bibs at the factory boutique at 91 Park ave in Hoboken.
Maxwell’s 9.13.34 on Court Street also has some beautiful color to add to your ensemble {with this amazing quote!} :
